About Acupuncture

WHAT IS ACUPUNCTURE AND HOW DOES IT WORK?

Acupuncture focuses on improving general well being, not just treating isolated symptoms.

The practice is part of the traditional Chinese system of medicine, which believes that the body is an energetic organism.

Disease or ill health occur when the flow of energy (Qi) is blocked or out of balance. This may happen for various reasons, for example due to physical or emotional trauma, poor diet, stress or climate.

My aim as an acupuncturist is to identify any imbalances and correct them by inserting very fine, sterile, disposable needles into specific points on the body along the pathways of energy (Meridians).

, PipAbout Me

I trained in acupuncture on a 3-year, full time degree course at the University of Westminster in London (formerly London School of Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine). This course provided supervised clinical training using the Traditional Chinese Medical model. It also covered the core health sciences, practitioner development and research skills.

I qualified and joined the expert team at Dolphin House, Brighton in 2003.  I currently practice in Brighton and Ditchling, East Sussex as well as Haywards Heath, West Sussex. These locations are within easy reach of Lewes, Hassocks, Burgess Hill, Shoreham and Worthing.

I also work at the Sussex Multiple Sclerosis Treatment Centre in Southwick.  This centre provides various complementary therapies, as well as oxygen therapy at reduced rates for members of the centre.  I can also see private clients there if there is space, but unfortunately not at the reduced rate.

Since I qualified in 2003 I have been developing a special interest in Fertility and Pregnancy. I am a member of ACT Brighton & Sussex (Acupuncture Childbirth Team) a team of qualified acupuncturists with a common interest in enhancing the experience of pregnancy and birth for women and their partners as well as using acupuncture to improve fertility.

I’m a member of the British Acupuncture Council (BAcC), the UK's main regulatory body. The BAcC ensures that all practitioners have achieved a certain standard of training and adhere to their code of practice and code of ethics.

I’m committed to continued professional development and regularly attend seminars in acupuncture and Chinese Medicine.

I’ll give you a calm, solid and receptive space in which to talk about your physical and/or emotional symptoms. I’m here to fully listen, observe and understand the state of your health, not to judge or control. I aim to help you understand your health and bring about beneficial, lasting change through acupuncture and, when relevant, lifestyle advice.
